The Benito Pérez Galdós Prize for Young Narrative opens the term for its second edition

The Council of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Asociación Cultural CanariaseBook launched, for the second consecutive year, the Benito Pérez Galdós Prize for Young Narrative. This edition includes as the main novelty the creation of two categories: ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) and Secondary Education (Baccalaureate and Vocational Training).

Students from all public and subsidized centers in Gran Canaria will be able to participate again. The deadline for submitting the material, open from Monday, February 8, ends on April 30, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.

For this second edition, the financial endowment of the prizes increases in its two categories, which is established as follows: in the short novel section, the first prize has an endowment of 300 euros, the edition of the work and the gift of three books of the edited collective work; the second prize, 200 euros, the edition of the work and the gift of books of the published collective work; and the third prize: 100 euros, the edition of the work and the gift of the three books.

For its part, in the short story category, the first prize has an endowment of 200 euros, the edition of the work and three books of the published collective work; the second prize, 150 euros, the edition of the work and the gift of three books of the published collective work; and the third prize, 100 euros, the edition of the work and the gift of three books of the collective work.

The award resolution will be announced on May 10, 2021, in commemoration of the 178th anniversary of the birth of Benito Pérez Galdós, and at the end of the month, always according to availability, the awards ceremony will be held, also following all the protocols restrooms, at the Pérez Galdós House-Museum.

In order to assess the originals submitted to the contest, a jury will be set up chaired by the Minister of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Olaia Morán Ramírez. The jury will be made up of distinguished representatives from the world of publishing, writing and literary culture, and a worker from the Department of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria will act as secretary (with voice and without vote). .

Regarding the bases, the students enrolled in public and subsidized centers of the Canary Islands, Secondary Education (ESO, Bachillerato, F. Profesional) may be submitted to this II Prize for youth narrative, after accepting the bases of the call and the transfer of the rights over the first edition of your story or novel in the case of being awarded or selected for collective publication.

For this, each participant must attach, along with their short novel or short story, a data protection document, signed by their legal representatives.
