The Balearic Government is studying the possibility of imposing again the mandatory mask in outdoor spaces, according to the Mallorca newspaper and has been able to confirm elDiario.es. The regional executive will debate it this afternoon at the social dialogue table and, then, will make public its final position.
Why does the mask resist on the streets without its use being mandatory?
Executive sources indicate that “it is a possibility” and that “there is no closed proposal. The will of the Government is that the mask is mandatory in urban places and that the “natural open spaces” such as the beach, the countryside or the mountains are excepted.
The Balearic Islands would be the first autonomous community that would impose the obligatory nature of the mask in outdoor spaces, one month after they are no longer mandatory if the safety distance can be maintained.
Measures against bottles
The measures that the Government has already adopted are aimed at fighting against bottles: 1,000 euros of fine, at least, to those who drink in the street. Before, the penalty was 100 euros per person.
Government sources indicate that the sanction will be higher if the offending person has a positive PCR or if they would have to be quarantining at that time.
The cumulative incidence of the Balearic Islands is 496 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days – an incidence lower than that of other communities such as Asturias, Cantabria, Navarra, Aragon, Castilla y León and, above all, Catalonia.
The percentage of the population vaccinated on the islands with the first dose reaches 66.3%, according to the latest data made public by the Government. 52.7% of the population have already received the complete guideline. The occupancy of ICUs by COVID reaches 10%.
