The archbishop of Tarragona, Jaume Pujol, has ceased on Wednesday the rector of the parish of Arbeca (Lleida) and other towns in Lleida, Josep Maria Font, one day after removing from his duties the parish priest of Constantí (Tarragona), Francesc Xavier Morell, both allegedly involved in touching minors.

Further, the Archbishop of Tarragona website publishes a letter from the parish priest in which the priest himself tells that he has been removed from his duties and asks for "apologies to anyone who has been offended". The letter begins with reference to the information appearing in the media: "Before the news published in the media to my person and in agreement with the Archbishop and for the good of the parishes where I am exercising my ministry, I have asked to be relieved of my position as rector of the parishes of Santiago Apóstol de Arbeca , Sant Martí de Sant Martí de Maldà (and the Church of the Sweet Name of Maria del Vilet), Santiago Apóstol de Belianes, Santa María de Maldà, Santiago Apóstol de Nalec, San Miguel de los Omellons and the Transfiguration of the Lord of Rocafort de Vallbona ".

The religious grateful in the letter to the archbishop his confidence: "deposited in me during all these years." And he says he deeply regrets this situation. "I apologize to all the people I have been able to offend or disappoint."

This Tuesday, the priest of Constantì, Morell, presented his resignation as rector of the parish following the pressure exerted by some parishioners and the City Council when the facts came to light. The priest said he has decided to leave "a while", although what happened does not prevent him from exercising the ministry, said EFE. The priest adds that he has made the decision "for the good of the parishes and in agreement with the archbishop of the diocese," Jaume Pujol.
