The Madrid Press Association has delivered its 2019 and 2020 annual awards this Tuesday in a joint act due to the pandemic. The institution has recognized the work of the editor of elDiario.es Laura Galaup with the APM Prize for Specialized Journalism for her coverage of the situation of nursing homes during the coronavirus crisis.
The award is shared with Fernando Peinado (El País), Elena Jiménez (Cadena Ser) and Manuel Rico (Infolibre) for the “value of investigative journalism” in the articles of each of them.
The APM has organized an event with limited capacity held at the Palacio de Cibeles presided over by the kings of Spain, the regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
Felipe VI has affirmed, coinciding with the 125 years of the creation of the APM, that “without freedom of expression and information there is no democracy” while the capital city councilor has valued the “extraordinary effort” of journalists “in a situation with so many difficulties to receive information “and in a moment of” uncertainty “. Letizia received in 2001 the APM award in the Young Journalist category. Twenty years later, he has presented the awards to Carlos Franganillo (TVE) and Carlos Alsina (Onda Cero) as Best Journalist of the year 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The other professionals awarded by the APM in this edition are Francisco Giménez Alemán, Clara Jiménez Cruz, Jaime Santirso and Constantino Mediavilla.
