The US technology company Nvidia has joined Ericsson and LG and has announced that it will not send workers this year to the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be held from February 24 to 27 in Barcelona, due to the global health alert for the coronavirus.
“Given the risks to public health around the coronavirus, our main concern is to ensure the safety of our colleagues, partners and customers,” says the multinational in a statement, which claims to have already notified GSMA, the organizing association of Mobile, of his decision not to participate.
The firm ensures that the MWC Barcelona is one of the most important technological congresses in the world and that in recent months it has been working to present its work there in areas such as 5G or artificial intelligence. However, he believes that not attending this 2020 is “the right decision.”
Nvidia ends its statement thanking the leadership of GSMA, the employer of mobile operators, in the Mobile organization and “the continuous efforts to ensure the safety of all attendees.”
Founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Curtis Priem and Chris Malachowsky, Nvidia is a company based in California that is dedicated to the manufacture of graphic chips and invoices more than 3,000 million euros annually.
The absence of Nvidia in the Mobile is a new setback for the organization of the room, after this week the South Korean LG and the Swedish Ericsson have announced that they will not participate in it as a result of the coronavirus.
Nevertheless, GSMA maintains that the MWC will be held “as proposed” and that all necessary preventive measures will be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
In this regard, the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, has asked this Saturday not to promote “social alarm” against the risk of contagion of the coronavirus and has ruled out that measures such as the use of masks during the Mobile are necessary.
“Does anyone think that if I believed that there is risk I would not be doing anything? We would be the first to be asking for measures,” he said in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio.
