The Alaskan people who disappeared: the mysterious Inuit

"Every time there are less ice, the waters are rising, the houses disappear from one day to another because of the earth movements caused by the advance of the sea ...", says Esau Kokeok, a resident of the small town. Shishmaref is located almost a thousand kilometers from Anchorage, in the heart of Alaska and just 160 from Russia, south of the Arctic Circle. Today it is inhabited by 560 Inuit, who are seeing how their life is diluted at the same speed as sea waters rise. It is not an occasional phenomenon; it is already an unstoppable phenomenon as a result of the thaw caused by greenhouse gases. They will disappear, although there will be, although no one can ever understand it, an explanation. There was not for the Inuit people who in the thirties of the last century settled on the shores of Lake Angikuni, in northern Canada; It disappeared from one day to another, without more, without successive expeditions to the place until very recent dates have managed to determine what happened.

The trappers of the area, who were the ones who gave the alarm, said that the region was famous for the spirits that sometimes took the form of a bloodthirsty animal they called Wendigo, a species of creature of the enormous size forests and very violent that he could kill the inhabitants of the town in just a few hours. With a thousand people to be exact.

Where did their bodies go? Why was never a single body found?

To this enigmatic puzzle long ago was joined by the declaration of an old trapper who, at that time and on the other side of the lake, saw something strange. His name was Arnand Laurent, and according to the journalist Javier Martín that day «he was in the vicinity of the town, a few tens of kilometers from it, specifically in the far north. Everything seemed calm. Until, unexpectedly, Laurent saw something he could never forget. A cylindrical and scintillating object sped across the sky, in the direction of Lake Angikuni. Despite knowing the area perfectly, I had never seen a phenomenon like this. What would be that strange and gigantic object that planned among the clouds with utmost lightness? After the initial surprise he returned to his daily chores. When he passed through the nearest city, he gave notice to the Canadian Mounted Police of the unusual incident. He did not arouse special interest among the authorities, who filed the case. But a few months later, a fur salesman related the strange event with an unimaginable mass disappearance. His name was Joe Laballe. While around the lake, he decided to try to trade with the Inuits. But there was no one. He searched inside the huts, outside the houses ... The sleds, the way of transporting the Inuits, were kept in the place where they were left when they were not used. There were no prints of any kind. On the walls of the houses were the rifles they used for hunting, the food was still stored in the pantry, and in some there were the tables set and the food half-eaten. It seemed as if the Inuit village had left in a hurry, warning of some danger against which it would be impossible to fight. But, unless they knew how to fly, it is difficult for a thousand people not to leave a single mark. Demons of their mythology that took them to another plane, UFOs like the one Laurent saw flying over the area ... The years have passed and after many investigations, none has managed to conclude what happened to the thousand inhabitants of the Inuit people, thus causing the disappearance of an entire town that has not heard anything again ...
