The National Police has arrested eleven people, one of them a bank employee, allegedly involved in a fraud of more than 6 million euros perpetrated in Madrid and about twenty provinces with the collection of pensions of deceased persons. During the operation, which took place in 2019 in 21 provinces, 12,586 improper payments were analyzed, 75 bank accounts, 23 cases with more than 100,000 euros disappointed and 40 pensions collected for more than ten years. Among the cases investigated, 22 had died two decades ago and eleven of those killed were Spanish pensioners abroad. The investigation, as reported by the Police on Wednesday, has meant “a challenge for agents” in Álava, Alicante, Almería, Asturias, Barcelona, Cáceres, Cantabria, Córdoba, Gerona, Huelva, La Coruña, Las Palmas, Madrid, Málaga , Murcia, Orense, Pontevedra, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Valencia and Zaragoza.
Among the most relevant cases, it is worth mentioning that of a woman who, in order to gain access to the bank account of her mother who died four years earlier, did not hesitate to approach the bank with a "Actress" who supplanted the identity of her father, deceased In this way, he gained access to money by falsifying the signature of the account holder. The involved benefited from more than 200 cash provisions, which have resulted in fraud against the National Social Security Institute of more than 74,000 euros, paid over the past 20 years improperly.
Bank clerk
In another case a bank clerk who, taking advantage of his knowledge in the position and abusing the confidence of his office colleagues, came to perform until 62 withdrawals from the account of a deceased woman and that they had been unduly paid by the National Social Security Institute. In order to commit the facts, the arrested person falsified the cash receipts and bank cards of the deceased pensioner and, in order to justify himself at his job, took advantage of the moments in which he attended elderly people to indicate his partner from the window that it was very old, that he could not stand when he had movement difficulties and invited her to wait sitting. With that ploy, the detainee managed to get the money delivered to him with the false belief that the woman who was sitting was the account holder. The worker's arrest occurred while extracting money at an ATM of the entity he had previously stolen.
The eleven people arrested have been held responsible for crimes against Social Security, fraud, documentary falsification and misappropriation.
