The fifth edition of the South Atlantic Performing Arts Market, Maps, organized by the Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo de Tenerife, Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Unahoramenos and Circulart, which is held in Gran Canaria and Tenerife from
July 4 to 9reinforces its founding commitment as an Atlantic platform for the internationalization of cultural industries, a meeting and business space of international reference for music and performing arts professionals.

A commitment that the different administrations that participate in Maps have endorsed and that provides
"the opportunity to connectnot only to the companies that visit us, but also to the Canarian companies that have the opportunity to use Maps to project themselves beyond our borders", in the words of
Juan MarquezDeputy Minister of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, at the presentation of the fifth edition of the event, held yesterday at the Tenerife Auditorium, in a ceremony attended by the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife,
Jose Manuel Bermudez; the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria,
Guacimara Medina; the insular director of Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife,
Alexander Krawietz; Mario Vega and Octavio ArbelaezMap directors.

The objective

«The Canary Islands have a limited market due to their geographical condition and many times we speak of the Canary Islands as
strategic and tricontinental platform but few projects turn that intention into something tangible and here we have a reality that has been taking place for five years and turns the Canary Islands into that platform for meeting and exchange”, highlighted Juan Márquez in his speech.

According to Márquez, "since last year it has been a project that unites the two islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, which
unites from the cultural to the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and therefore for the Canarian Government it is a project of a
strategic importance to highlight.

Catalog of Canarian artists

From the organization of Maps 2022, it was valued that "this year other municipalities are also added, in addition to the Ministry of Culture, and this photo [las distintas instituciones que participan en Mapas]

He stressed that a

With the aim of placing the Canary Islands as an international benchmark for performing arts in the South Atlantic, Maps is structured around six days of professional meetings in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with
business conferences, 'showcases', seminars and workshops.


In the business conferences they have confirmed their participation more than
200 programmers from 34 countries from the geographic scope of Maps, 112 music and 110 performing arts, among which thirty professionals from the Canary Islands stand out; and 198 artistic groups have been selected in this fifth edition,
80 music and 96 performing artsin addition to 22 agencies.

The participation of Canarian creators is also significant in the artistic exhibitions that it presents in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. In these samples for programmers and programmers, and
open to the general public47 groups participate: 34 concerts in showcase format, and 13 performing arts proposals between theater, dance, circus and street arts.

The activity of the performing arts market will take place in Tenerife from July 7 to 9 in the cultural reference spaces of the island: the business conferences will be held in the Library of Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, TEA; and the theater, dance and street art performances are distributed between the Auditorio de Tenerife, Teatro Guimerá, Espacio R and Espacio La Granja.
