The ULPGC Governing Council today held an ordinary and telematic session that began with the Rector’s report, Lluís Serra Majem, who has referred to start of the next academic year 2021-2022 on September 9, noting that “given that the health authorities plan that all members of the university community are vaccinated Around August 20, the natural thing is that the ULPGC begins the course with face-to-face teaching, with masks in closed spaces “.
The Rector indicated that this has been transferred in a meeting with directors and deans of Centers, where he explained that “it is necessary to work in this regard, although hybrid teaching may be envisaged in some groups or in cases of contacts with positives.”
The Governing Council agreed on Amendments to the Regulations for Emeritus and Honorary Professors of the ULPGC, eliminating the limitation to one per area of knowledge and making it possible for applicants to meet the requirements that are already strict. The Rector stressed that in this way it will be possible to have extraordinary professionals who help in the teaching and research of the ULPGC, without reducing the hiring of professors hired as doctors.
The regulations provide that exceptionally, at the proposal of the Rector, honorary professors may be appointed among those who, not being professors of the ULPGC, can contribute their experience and knowledge to the ULPGC.
The Vice-Rector for Teaching Staff, Academic Planning and Educational Innovation, Cecilia Dorado also presented the call and evaluation commissions of the positions of University Professors and University Professors, which refer to 13 positions in the Body of University Professors, and 4 positions in the Body of University Professors, included in the Public Job Offers for the years 2019 and 2020. It was approved by consent.
The Vice-Rector for Undergraduate, Postgraduate and New Degrees, Luis Hernández Calvento, presented the proposal of subjects for the exemption of recognition of foreign language skills from the Tourism and Data Engineering degrees taught in English.

The Director of the Office of Strategic Planning, Rafael Pérez presented to the Governing Council the work being carried out to address the V Institutional Strategic Plan of the ULPGC, which will have compliance monitoring and supervision. For this, the Governing Council is requested to create a steering committee that is responsible for this Institutional Strategic Plan, which will include among its members the Rector, General Secretary and Manager, a representative from the centers, another from the departments and another from the university institutes, two representatives of the union representations of both the PAS and the PDI and a representative of the Student Council. What is desired is that it be a participatory elaboration, taking into account the voices of the different sectors of the university community.
The Governing Council agreed to the modification of the members of different commissions of the Governing Council for the student sector. Licenses were also granted for different teachers and, at the request of the Director of the Equality Unit, Carolina Mesa, adherence to the “Strategic Framework for Equality Gran Canaria Infinita”, of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, which is a commitment to policies in favor of equality and non-discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation and gender identity from an intersectional perspective.
The Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Mobility and International Projection, Jin Taira, informed the Governing Council that the next academic year 2021-2022 the ULPGC will receive about 500 mobility students and will send about 700 students from the ULPGC, and that it has worked with the Canary Islands Health Service so that everyone can have the relevant vaccine against covid-19.
The Rector wished all the members of the Governing Council and the university community a happy holiday, as this will be the last Governing Council of the 2020-2021 academic year.
