The edition 2020 of the THE Ranking (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) includes again the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) among the most outstanding Spanish universities, since it only collects 45 Spanish universities, from the more than 80 existing universities in our country. The ULPGC is located in the position 23 of the Spanish universities.
This ranking analyzes 1,396 universities from around the world and is headed by the British University of Oxford, followed by the California Institute of Technology. The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria It is located in a group of Universities next to the universities of La Coruña, Alicante, Cádiz, Carlos III of Madrid, Seville, Vigo and Zaragoza, among others. In this group there are 18 Spanish universities, of the total of 45 universities in the country highlighted in the ranking.
This ranking evaluates teaching, research, citations of international works, relationship with industry and internationalization. Last November 2019, the 2019 edition of the THE Ranking (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) had already included the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) among the most outstanding Spanish universities in the world.
In addition, the THE 2019 ranking that analyzes universities with less than 50 years old, included the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is one of the 22 Spanish universities in this ranking. The ULPGC ranked in this ranking among the first two hundred in the world.
THE is one of the most influential university rankings in the world, with almost five decades of experience as a source of analysis and knowledge of higher education. It is the only global university performance table that judges the main missions of universities: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international perspectives.
Regarding the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings ranking, it also distinguishes the areas of knowledge: the ULPGC is number 1 of the Spanish young universities in Veterinary Medicine, 4th in Sports, 5th in Marine Sciences, Archeology and Geography , and among the top 10 in Spain in Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Economics and Business Administration, History, Language and Literature, Education and Computer Science.
The first three Spanish universities are Pompeu Fabra (global position 11), Rovira and Virgili (78) and University of the Balearic Islands (101). The first three in the world repeat the same as last year and are the University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong, followed by the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne and the Technological University of Singapore.
Last year 2018, only 17 Spanish universities were included in this ranking, in which 13 indicators were analyzed and that included 250 universities from 55 countries. In 2019, 351 universities from more than 60 countries are included. As regards Spanish universities, the first was the Pompeu Fabra (global position 11), followed by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (13 and the Autonomous University of Madrid (73).
