The Archipelago registered 115 new cases of coronavirus last day. Most of them, specifically 76, were located in Tenerife, which again tripled in daily infections to Gran Canaria, which only added 23 more to its general calculation, which stands at 9,351. The upward trend of the Tenerife island, which already accumulates a total of 8,688 positive diagnoses of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, maintains the red traffic light in the territory where the extraordinary measures to contain the virus will remain until the next 10 of December, as announced by the Regional Government Health Department.
In the last 24 hours, in the Canary Islands four people between 79 and 85 years of age died from the pathogen and all with previous pathologies. Likewise, there have been 146 discharges, with which the total number of cured patients rises to 16,166 in the autonomous community. In contrast, 4,223 people continue to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 on the Islands, 35 less than the previous day. Of these patients, 42 remain admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ucis) of the Canarian hospitals, where another 186 patients recover on the ward.
Regarding the new positive diagnoses, 23 of them were located in Gran Canaria, which already accumulates a total of 9,351 cases, which is why it remains the island with the highest general count of infections. Even so, of these, only 1,209 remain active, mostly in the capital where 1,023 are concentrated.
Tenerife, for its part, has 8,688 cases since the start of the pandemic, 76 more than the previous day. There, 2,875 people continue to be affected by the virus, 1,146 of them in Santa Cruz. The capital of Tenerife is the municipality with the highest presence of coronavirus at present, when it brings together 27% of the patients in the Archipelago in its territory.
Lanzarote also added new cases, eight specifically, with 1,393 accumulated and 53 epidemiologically active. Fuerteventura has seven more infected with coronavirus where total positive diagnoses rose to 897 after adding another five in the last 24 hours. La Palma, however, did not increase its number of infections, which remains at 213, nine of them still active.
La Gomera registered three new positive diagnoses, reaching 112 accumulated and 14 affected by Covid-19. Finally, El Hierro without new cases, maintains total infections in 69 and assets in two.
Regarding the outbreak reported on Wednesday in the home for the elderly Hogar Santa Rita II, in Tenerife and affecting five residents, no new cases have been registered after yesterday the other users and workers of the center. There have also been no more infections in the outbreak of the Divina Gracia residence on the same island, although one of the affected people has been referred to a hospital. In this focus, 12 residents and a worker are infected, and the center has been intervened by the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC).
Health reported the precautionary cessation of activity in a sports facility in Fuerteventura, after the incident reported during a paddle tennis tournament held last Sunday with non-compliance with protection measures among attendees, which has resulted in an outbreak with six confirmed cases and 24 close contacts in follow-up.
