Spanish beach tennis today decides ten national titles on the last day of the Mapfre Beach Tennis Championships of Spain, which have been held in Las Canteras since last Thursday. The premier category is the only one that has left the semifinals phase for the last day, while the rest of the competitions have only the finals pending.
The couples Ganesha Díaz / Sabrina López, Carol Miranda / Alejandra Porteiro, Noa Farías / María Martínez and the 2020 champions, Eva Fernández / Omayra Farías, are still in competition. In the men's category, the current champions of Spain, Antomi Ramos / Gerard Rodríguez and the couples formed by Sergi Ventura / Alex Albors continue in the fight for the title; Saulo Tejada / Víctor López and Álvaro Martín / Carlos Rodríguez.
"A great level"
The ApProba Beach Tennis Club organizes the 19th edition of the Mapfre Spain Championship on Las Canteras beach (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) and the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through the Gran Canaria Isla del Deporte initiative, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands.
The sports director of the RFET, Javier Soler, highlighted the high level of the players who participate in these championships and has described the organization of the event that is held without an audience and with other restrictions due to the health situation as "extraordinary".
On the last day of these championships, the finals of all categories are held, except for the absolute male and female individual that took place on Friday with the triumph of the Canaries Antomi Ramos and Daniela Rodríguez, respectively. Rodríguez gave the surprise when she was proclaimed champion in women with only 14 years and before the number one in the ranking, the Catalan Eva Fernández.
It is the second time that the Spanish Mapfre Beach Tennis Championships include individual competition. In 2020 the championships were held in Vera (Almería) and the victory went to Omayra Farías and Antomi Ramos, who made a double this year. Today the new youth champions of Spain (under 14 and under 18) and veterans (+35 and +45) will be known, both in female and male categories, throughout a busy schedule that will begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with the first matches.
The finals of the absolute category are held from 5:00 p.m. on the central court of the venue installed in Las Canteras and will be broadcast for the first time live on the Teledeporte channel of TVE. The organization has arranged the awards ceremony for individual, veteran and youth winners at 3:30 pm, before the absolute finals.
