The colective
Confluence Table of Doctors and Physicians of the Canary Islands will maintain the strike call scheduled for April 28 and 29 as long as their proposals are not heard within the Health work table with the unions represented in the sectoral table, which met yesterday to agree on how the process of
consolidation of vacancies temporarily covered in public health.

Initially, the Canary Islands will take out
11,500 places, of which 6,700 will be obtained without the need to take an examfor a merit contest where seniority will prevail.

“We are quite afraid because we do not know what data and what places are being valued and
can leave many professionals out of the consolidation processboth Primary Care and Hospital Care », explains the spokesperson for the group formed by temporary doctors from the Canary Islands, Dácil García.

The specialist in Infectious Diseases maintains that the Confluence Table demands that their requests be heard, "either through dialogue with the unions or by the autonomous Executive" for which it would be convenient if they were invited to the sectoral table as an advisory committee , «with voice but without vote».

In this sense, he points out that the group, with the help of a legal office, has carried out a
Detailed study of the places that suffer the abuse of temporality in each of the island Primary Care management offices and in the hospitals.

Temporality abuse

«
Two out of three doctors in the Canary Islands are temporary», underlines García about the data handled by his organization. Specifically, they calculate that in Canarian hospitals there are about 2,200 temporary specialists, to which must be added another 1,400 Primary Care professionals. "65% of doctors have been on temporary contracts for more than three years," says the doctor.

García thinks that it will be fed up
complicated to reduce temporary employment from 65% to 8% as intended with the consolidation process sponsored by Law 20/2021, of December 28, on urgent measures against temporary employment in public employment.

“They are going to have to carry out an exhaustive study of the templates and put out a sufficient number of vacancies” to welcome professionals in a temporary situation, he affirms.

Fear of losing your job

The group's spokesperson assures that the consolidation process is an open contest to which
Professionals from other health systems in Spain may apply Therefore, the number of places in the call and the scales to be applied must be carefully studied.

On the other hand, García points out that, after the strike call, the Ministry of Health has not called the Confluence Table to negotiate. “We take this step because on July 20, 2020, the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, promised to open a path of dialogue to solve the situation.
We tried to talk to them actively and passively, but they shelved us. They only told us that our proposal was not feasible or possible, ”says the spokesperson for the professional group.

Regarding his claim, the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, stated a few days ago that he did not see fit to create a new negotiation forum outside the legally established one with union representatives.
