Syria accuses Israel of launching attack on its territory, fourth in 15 days

Syria accused Israel on Monday of launching an attack on its territory, this time against military warehouses located in Aleppo province, the fourth such action in the last two weeks against positions of the Syrian Army, the state agency SANA reported.

"At 22.32 local time (20.32 GMT) Syrian anti-aircraft defenses responded to hostile missiles," an unidentified military source told the agency, adding that the shells "targeted military warehouses in the Safira area," in Aleppo. .

The agency said it is evaluating "the losses due to the assault", which was targeted by a research center in Aleppo, without giving further details at the moment.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that several explosions hit an area where Syrian Army units and pro-Iranian militias are deployed in eastern Aleppo.

The UK-based NGO and a wide network of partners on the ground said the action, "probably from Israel," destroyed an ammunition depot without the severity of the damage being known at the moment.

It is the fourth attack in two weeks that Damascus attributes to Israel, accusing it of launching it from Lebanese territory against Syria.

So far, Israel has not commented on this or previous actions.

The last one was against the south of the country from the Golan last Friday while the most serious was that of April 27 with three civilians killed after another launched against the monumental city of Palmira.

Attacks allegedly launched by Israel are usually carried out from Lebanese airspace, although this time the agency has not given details of where they have been carried out.

Israeli attacks are often common on Syrian territory as Israel views Iran's presence in Syria in support of the president, Bachar Al Asad, as posing a threat to its security.

For its part, the Syrian government has repeatedly urged the UN to take measures to discourage Israel and avoid repeating such actions, which have been recorded more or less periodically since the start of the conflict in Syria in 2011 .
