Spain breaks its record of foreign tourists for the sixth consecutive year | Economy

For the sixth consecutive year, Spain received a record number of foreign tourists in 2018. Last year it finally closed with 82.8 million, 1.1% more than the previous year, according to the figures published this Friday by the INE. Although during the year the figures had shown slight growth and even some declines, due to the emergence of other competing destinations and certain meteorological conditions, the strong momentum of the last quarter, especially in December, has placed again the number of arrivals in numbers never seen . Better news gave the expense of tourists, which increased to triple the pace of arrivals. Visitors spent 89,856 million euros on visiting Spain, 3.3% more than in 2017.

The figures are close to the perfect equation that the Government and the tourism sector are looking for: that spending grows without the number of visitors becoming a problem due to the saturation of destinations, which may cause outbreaks of turism phobia or tighten public resources too much . The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism also highlights the growth in average daily spending per tourist, which has risen by 7.4% to 146 euros. This data is related more to what the tourist is left in his stay in Spain, since the total cost includes what it costs, for example, the plane ticket, which he pays in his country of origin. On the other side, it should be noted that the average stay of tourists is reduced to 7.4 days on average, by 7.7 the previous year.
