Spain and the IDB will promote smart tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean

Madrid, Mar 31 (EFE) .- Spain will collaborate with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to promote the Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI) model in Latin America and the Caribbean, through the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and the Segittur public company.

The project will apply instruments for technological diagnosis and knowledge dissemination, will develop technological pre-investment plans and innovative project designs that accelerate the adoption of digital and emerging technologies in destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

As reported on Wednesday by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism in a statement, the IDB opted for Segittur for its trajectory and experience in promoting a network of smart tourist destinations.

These aim to provide destinations with a tool to face the challenges of the sector, improve their competitiveness and develop a long-term sustainable model.

In the case of the DTI Network, it is a space for exchange and coordination for the transfer of knowledge, the generation of synergies between destinations and the development of strategic alliances between them and the private sector.

The Spanish Government highlighted the fundamental role that digital and emerging technologies can play to reactivate tourism and guarantee its future profitability in Latin America and the Caribbean after the coronavirus crisis.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through the general cooperation fund of Spain. EFE
