If individuals have doubts about which car to buy before the process of decarbonisation of transport, gas stations have been trying to cover all fronts for some time so as not to be caught by the bull before a massive demand for any of the new technological alternatives the carpet: gas, electric car, hydrogen, etc.
Although it is likely that the draft of the Law of Energy Transition and Climate Change suffer some change after the elections, "the trend towards these energies is unstoppable," says Víctor García Nebreda, general secretary of Aevecar (Grouping of Retail Sales of Fuels and Fuels).

Despite the fact that car brands, hydrocarbon companies and gas stations believe in a coexistence of all technologies at least during the energy transition, the Executive, blinded with the electric car, continues taking steps so that this is the one that takes the cat to the water.

"Sales volume is not the best criterion for selecting service stations," they say in Cepsa. Among other things because "you would need powers much higher than the 22 kilowatts set by law to obtain acceptable recharge times." In addition, many gas stations that have these sales "are mostly trucks and others do not have enough space."
And for long distance routes, "the solution is the ultra-fast recharge, which requires an investment of more than one million euros per station ". "Making a recharge to do 600 km, in 10 minutes, requires a power in the pole that would cost about 50,000 euros a year. That is to say, eight times more power than the current one ", stand out in Cepsa.

Today "the infrastructure of electrical distribution is insufficient on the road for these powers, so we would have to consider the connection to another point of the network, which would mean an additional cost of more than one million euros per gas station," they clarify.
Another of the pitfalls that affect, especially the smaller ones, is the tax on economic activities (IAE). And they are forced to pay different IAE for each activity (bread sale, car wash, etc.). "And this would be one more," they point out.
It is the circumstance that some are giving away the recharge for not coping with this tax, "because they do not enter more than 100 euros a year", they count in the Spanish Confederation of Businessmen of Service Stations (Ceees).
All in all, the service stations are doing their homework. Repsol already has 30 fast recharge points, thanks to its participation in Ibil, a company that offers a 100% renewable full recharge service, and that has 1,700 operative points in garages, companies, car parks or shopping centers.
In 2018 he entered the American company Ample, which works on the implementation of autonomous robotics allowing the load in a few minutes. "A viable solution in the medium term that will allow access to electric mobility to users regardless of their economy or geographical situation," they say in the entity.

In addition to betting on the carsharing, along with Kia in Madrid, or in the manufacture of electric scooters, it has also turned to autogas or liquefied petroleum gas, where it has 400 supply points.
Cepsa has planned to install 100 ultra-fast recharging points in two years in Spain and Portugal, thanks to its alliance with Ionity, European cargo network driven by BMW, Daimler, Ford, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche. The first points will be operational in the coming months.

Infrastructure. Put a recharge point, which needs at least 100 kW of power, is not possible in the whole territory due to lack of network capacity, says García Nebreda, general secretary of Aevecar. In addition, the cost of paying the term of this contracted power, like that of the receipt of electricity, is very high, to which must be added the monthly electricity consumption and the cost of the installation, he adds. In his opinion, one way to encourage investment would be to eliminate or reduce this concept and include tax rebates. "Not only help the one who buys the electric".
Consumption. The average volume of sales of fuel is 2.8 million liters. But many other stations, in large geographic areas and more depopulated, barely reach two million liters, as in Castilla y León. The most consumed are usually located in large cities or busy roads.
Normative. The new draft of the draft bill, at least, has eliminated the penalties for not meeting the requirement of the implementation of recharge stations, which could amount to 30 million euros. The established terms were from 21 to 27 months, depending on the volume of fuel sales.
Green vehicles The registration of electric vehicles amounted to 13,882 last year, representing an increase of 61% over the previous year. The hybrid models, which combine the thermal engine with one or several electric, also rose more than 36% year-on-year.

When will there be enough demand to be able to live off the electric?
Today is not business and the proof is that service stations that already have recharging points are currently losing money with their exploitation.
How will the gas stations of the future be?
The future will be multi-energy and the gas stations will have a wide range of products: natural gas, gasoline, diesel, hydrogen, electricity and perhaps other energies that even today we do not even suspect.
