Sorrentino, Schrader and Gyllenhaal, for the Golden Lion of Venice

Rome, Jul 26 (EFE) .- Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino and Americans Paul Schrader and Maggie Gyllenhaal -with their debut as director- will compete for the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice Film Festival, which will be held between 1 and September 11, its organizers announced today.

Sorrentino, Oscar for “The great beauty” (2014) will carry his latest and most personal work, “È stata la mano di Dio” (It has been the hand of God), inspired by the nickname of Diego Armando Maradona, of which he is faithful follower.

Schrader will bring to the Mostra “The card counter”, with Oscar Isaac and Willerm Dafoe, a story about “the desire for revenge” in Guantánamo, in the words of the director of the festival, Alberto Barbera, while Gyllenhaal will compete with “The lost daughter” , starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson and Peter Sarsgaard.
