Sónar 2022 already warms up: these are its first names

Just over a year ago, specifically on May 7, 2020, Sónar organizers announced the suspension of the 27th edition of the festival because of the coronavirus. The evolution of the pandemic last March forced a new postponement, so they will be two long years orphans of the great Barcelona festival of advanced music and its technological brother, the Sónar + D. The festival, however, avoids sorrow and thinks only of the future, in the days June 16, 17 and 18, 2022, dates on which, trusting in the progressive recess of the pandemic and in the good effects of vaccination, Sónar should be celebrated in its maximum plenitude, or almost.

In this sense, and with the aim of animating the environment before your most awaited edition, or at least the most desired, the festival announced this morning the first 33 names of the poster, some of which have already appeared on the 2020 frustrated grid, and among which are The Chemical Brothers, The Blaze, Arca, Oneohtrix Point Never, Morad, Princess Nokia, Channel Tres, Serpentwithfeet, Joy Orbison, AJ Tracey and Louisahhh. As for the announced ‘dj’ sessions, Richie Hawtin, The Blessed Madonna and Charlotte de Witte stand out.

As reported by the festival through a statement, the dates on which Sónar 2022 tickets will go on sale will be announced in “the next few days”, although from today anyone who wishes can “secure their ticket before the general sale” by reserving it through the Web.

In addition to the first names on the poster, the festival has unveiled the image of the 2022 edition, one of the traditional attractions of the Barcelona event. This time, the oblique genius of Sergio Caballero, designer and co-director of the festival, has created a scarecrow legion, all made with various recycled materials, which protect some vineyards in the Penedès. Cryptic message, perhaps linked to the classic saying “who sings, his evil scares.” And a logo that is difficult to decrypt, which may well evoke the head of a scarecrow like a bag raised with a stick or, attention, a dental tooth; curiously, or not, a grindstone was the logo of the frustrated 2020 edition.

Two proposals for this fall

Last year, the Sónar organization refused to spend a blank year and launched a special event in September, halfway between virtual and face-to-face, at the CCCB. This year, the festival is doubling down with two proposals to liven up the autumn: the AI ​​and Music Festival (October 27 and 28) and the SónarCCCB (October 29 and 30).

Sónar will organize for the first time in Barcelona the AI and Music, festival focused on “the applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in music creation”. A technological appointment that will give the witness to SónarCCCB, in an “expanded, face-to-face and more musical programming” version compared to last year, and in which there will be “conferences, ‘workshops’, debates and Sónar + D presentations”. More than 60 activities, between virtual and face-to-face, which will be announced in the near future, aimed at keeping the flame alive while waiting for the vitalist explosion planned for the summer of 2022.
