Some shacks burn under a tunnel near Chamartín station

Several shacks have burned this afternoon in a fire that has not generated victims within a tunnel not enabled to traffic between Sinesio Delgado Street and Malva Street, in an area parallel to Mauricio Legendre Street, next to the train station of Chamartin

To the place of the event, where the fire has generated a large column of black smoke, several units of the City Fire Department, the Municipal Emergency Assistance Service (Samur) have come in a preventive manner, and the National Police.

According to Samur sources, there has been no person injured or affected by the smoke generated by the fire of some household goods.

The president of the Neighborhood Neighbors Association, Eusebio Casado, has told Efe that the inside of the tunnel, and its outer part - which remains fenced - is converted into an "illegal settlement" in which "at any time it can happen a disgrace".

Casado has said that as he has denounced several times, the settlement is constantly growing with "homeless people living in the area, in shacks they build on the plots."
