More than 150 social organizations ask the Government on Tuesday the dismissal of the director of the Center for Internment of Foreigners (CIE) of Aluche, in Madrid, in view of the violations of rights denounced by residents and "corroborated" by the courts.
The petition letter, addressed to Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, will be formally presented at 11:00 am today at the Ministry's headquarters, the organizations said in a press release.
"Regardless of the criminal and disciplinary responsibilities that should be instructive, it is essential the immediate dismissal of the director of the Center for Internment of Foreigners of Madrid, for serious breach of their duties," says the letter from the organizations addressed to the minister.
The petitioners state the "urgent" need to put an end to this situation and "to prevent new incidents such as those reported in the last month by the judge of Instruction Court No. 19 of Madrid in CIE control functions, which in two separate orders ordered to investigate actions police cases that occurred in the Center "for possible crime of torture".
On June 10, the Court of Instruction No. 19 of Madrid requested that the aggression suffered by an inmate of said CIE with a blunt object by an unidentified police officer be investigated on the night of April 27 when he was in custody. in the bedroom, for a possible crime of "torture".
This judicial order is a continuation of a previous one on May 27 in which Judge María Inmaculada Iglesias Sánchez pronounces on numerous complaints made by the inmates and NGOs, as well as the results of her visits to the center on April 30, 6 and May 8
In the letter to the minister, the 150 organizations say that "there is no greater reproach to the Rule of Law to tolerate torture, ill-treatment and arbitrariness of the State Security Forces and Corps over persons subject to their custody."
And he adds that "it is under the responsibility of the current director that there is an excessive and unnecessary use of security measures, an intimidating climate and an inadequate, even degrading treatment towards internal people, tolerating – despite the innumerable amount of complaints gathered-, that service agents operate without being properly identified. "
The complainants provide documents certifying these "serious facts" and, citing judicial proceedings, affirm that the director hinders or prevents inmates from exercising legal rights, such as the Asylum Petition.
"When the State deprives a person of liberty, it becomes the guarantor of their rights, which is the police in charge of guarding who infringes those rights or hinders their exercise is especially serious and demands the immediate reaction of the responsible Minister", affirm the organizations
Some of the organizations that have promoted the request to cease the director of the CIE of Aluche are the Samba Martine Human Rights Observatory, Pueblos Unidos, the Jesuit Migrants Service, Iusmigrante Project, the CIEs No Madrid platform, Acción en Red Madrid, or the Barrios Coordinator.
