Tarragona, Vitoria and San Sebastian are the Spanish cities with the most expensive taxi fares in 2018, according to a study carried out by Facua-Consumidores en Acción on the prices of this transport in 52 cities.

At the opposite end are Arrecife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Ceuta, while on the peninsula, Cádiz repeats again as the city in which the current rates of the taxi are cheaper

Tarragona repeats for the third consecutive year as the municipality with the most expensive taxi service.

The study compares complex and very different tariff systems. If you analyze, for example, the price of the kilometer during daytime, Barcelona would be the most expensive city, while during the night it would be Pontevedra. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Arrecife would have the cheapest price at any time. There are, however, many other factors, such as the lowering of the flag, the minimum race or special rates on holidays and weekends, which affect the final price.

For this reason, Facua has based its study on the simulation of nine different routes in each city, based on the official data with the current rates in each of the cities included in the study. In this sense, a score has been calculated and assigned to the price of a one-kilometer route (or the minimum paid race in each city), another of five and another of ten kilometers, during the day, night and weekend, always within the current urban rate in each city.

A) Yes, the average amount of these nine routes would cost in Tarragona almost double the price that would have in Arrecife. The difference is 93.75%.

According to this study, Tarragona is the city, with 84 points (out of a maximum of 90), where the taxi is more expensive and Arrecife, with 3 points, due to having the lowest amounts of the 52 cities, the cheapest. In that classification, Tarragona is followed by Vitoria (69 points), San Sebastián (66 points), Gerona (62 points), Cáceres (53 points), Lérida (53 points), Soria (49 points), Pamplona (48 points) , Valencia (46 points), and Barcelona (45 points). With 42 points are Ávila, León and Murcia, while there are twelve cities with 41: Madrid, Alicante, Palencia, Segovia, Valladolid, Pontevedra, Salamanca, Burgos, Gijón, Oviedo, Orense and Seville.

At the other extreme, after Arrecife, there are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (7 points), Ceuta (12), Cádiz (19), Jaén (22), Almería (24), Huelva (25), Melilla (25) and Zaragoza ( 28). Of the 52 cities analyzed, in 22 of them there has been some increase in the prices of the rates with respect to last year. In addition, in many of the cities the modification has been widespread, while in some specific cases, such as Ávila, Salamanca or Zamora, it has not occurred in all aspects.

The biggest increase in the price of the minimum career has been registered in Logroño, with a rise of 31.28%. In 2017 it cost 3.05 euros, while for the current year, the price has been set at 4 euros. Burgos, Salamanca and Melilla are the next three cities with the highest rise. In both costs a 6.25% more than in 2017. To have a price of 3.20 euros last year, now in both cities has a price of 3.40.

The price of the minimum daytime race has also increased in Toledo (4.11%), Vitoria (3.13%), Vigo (2.82%), Barcelona (2.38%), Gerona (2.17%) %), Lérida (1.81%), Jaén (1.68%), Córdoba (1.55%), Seville (1.39%), Santander (1.25%), and Gijón and Oviedo (0%). , 96%).

The rise not only of the minimum race but also of the price per kilometer also affects what it costs the user to take a taxi. In this sense, in 2018, Melilla has been the city where this parameter has experienced a greater percentage growth in day trips. From 0.80 euros that cost in 2017, now has a price of 0.85, 6.25% more. Vigo follows, with a rise of 3.16%, and Gerona (3.13%).

In the night section, Melilla has experienced the same rise as during the day, which is also the city where the price has grown the most, 6.25% more than in 2017. Second, Gerona (3.13%) and in third place, Vitoria with a rise of 3.12 %, from 1.27 cents in 2017 to 1.31 this year.

Attending to the three type journeys: minimum race and five and ten kilometers, it is extracted that the city with a greater generalized rise in its prices has been Vitoria, where taking the taxi now costs 7.64% more than in 2017. A lot distance follows Vigo, with a rise of 3.18%.

If the minimum career that all cities contemplate for their taxi service is considered as a parameter, San Sebastián, Lérida and Pamplona are the most expensive. The Galician capitals of Lugo, Orense and Pontevedra, as well as Barcelona, ​​are the ones that have, on the contrary, the cheapest minimum career, according to the study.

Nowadays, use the taxi in San Sebastian, costs, at least, 5.33 euros, which is what is worth the minimum daytime race in the capital of Guipúzcoa, the most expensive for the seventh consecutive year. At night, the service is from 6.18 euros. Conversely, in Lugo the minimum race costs 1.88 euros per day and only 2.55 euros per night. At night, however, Barcelona is the city in which the service is cheaper: the minimum race, both day and night, costs only 2.15 euros.

During the day, the average price of the race or minimum perception in the 52 cities analyzed is 3.43 euros, which represents an increase, compared to last year, of 1.36%. At night, the average is 4.40 euros, 0.48% more than in 2017. The differences between the lowest and highest minimum career reach 183.40% during the day and 187, 63% at night.

The study calculates the average price per kilometer (or equivalent waiting time) in the taxi service of all cities analyzed at 0.92 euros during the day and 1.14 euros at night. Attending this parameter, Barcelona with 1.13 euros, Castellón (1.12 euros) and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1.10 euros) are the municipalities where the price of the kilometer is more expensive. On the contrary, Arrecife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are, with 0.63 euros, the cheapest during the day.

At night, the two Canarian cities maintain the same price, being equally where the kilometer has lower cost, while in the most expensive are Pontevedra (1.40 euros), Lugo (1.39 euros), and again Barcelona, with 1.33 euros, the price differences, at this point, vary up to 107.31% during the day, and 121.75% at night.

The lowering of the flag is the price that costs simply stopping a taxi to use its services. It is an amount that is added to the cost of the route according to the price per kilometer. Although in some cities, such as the Canaries, Bilbao or Vitoria, for example, is in disuse in favor of a minimum career, which includes in the price the route of a certain distance.

The average price of the drop of the flag (where it does not exist as such, has been weighted according to the career or minimum perception contemplated in the official rates), stands at 1.85 euros during the day and 2.48 euros for the night.

Thus, San Sebastian repeats as the city that would have the most expensive flag drop for the day (4.19 euros) and Tarragona at night (4.70 euros). In contrast, in Ceuta is worth only 0.90 euros per day and in Castellón, 1.20 euros at night.

Trips to the airport

Many of the cities analyzed in the taxi price study of FACUA include supplements for journeys originating from airports, train and bus stations or port areas. In the case of airports, in addition, some cities include minimum journeys or fixed prices. This is the case of Seville, which has a fixed amount of 22.35 euros in the day rate and 24.92 in the night rate. The rate can reach 31.14 euros on Holy Week and Fair days.

Likewise, Barcelona and Badajoz have a minimum amount of 20 euros (applied to departures from the airport). In Malaga, taking a taxi from the airport costs at least 15.2 euros in the day rate and 19 euros in the night rate.

In Madrid there is a fixed fee of 20 euros for trips to or from the airport that do not exceed 10 kilometers, from that moment each kilometer will have an additional cost according to the current rate. Also, if the trip was to the interior area of ​​the M-30, the cost is 30 euros.

Services with fixed prices

Facua claims one more year that taxi fares stop including supplements or fixed prices for journeys to or from places such as bus stations, trains, ports or airports, since there is no higher quality service that justifies the increase in prices. The association reminds that these are points of regular affluence, so the existence of unjustified supplements is detrimental to users who go to these places.

Also, the association criticizes the application of special rates during certain weekend hours, which increase the price of the night rate or with a specific rate, as in Bilbao, Barcelona, ​​Granada, Pamplona, ​​San Sebastian and Seville. In the case of Córdoba, there is a 25% increase over the night rate. In addition, he insists that there is no justification to increase this service during weekends, or difference with the one offered during the week to justify the increase. According to the study, in 11 of the 52 cities analyzed (21.15%) special rates or supplements are applied during certain hours and days on weekends.
