Snowboard cross riders Regino Hernández and Lucas Eguibar classified and fighting for the Cervinia World Cup

Italy will host, on 21 and 22 December, the first round of the World Cup circuit of the snowboard cross discipline. On the 20th, the 21st and 22nd classifications will be held, the test that had to be canceled from Montafon (Austria) due to lack of snow the second week of December will be held.

In the qualifiers prior to the first final of the World Cup in Cervinia, Regino Hernández with a time of 1: 17.43 and Lucas Eguibar with 1: 17.49 have obtained the 10th and 11th positions, respectively. The best time was scored by the German rider Martin Noerl, (1: 15.18), which has achieved a difference of more than one second compared to the second classified, American Hagen Kearney (+1.77).

The snowboard cross team (SBX) of the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI) arrives at the first competition of the world's top SBX circuit with the aim of, at least, maintaining the good level shown during the last season after getting the silver medal by teams in the World Cup or the Olympic bronze of Regino Hernández in PyeongChang.

The RFEDI snowboard cross trainer, Alex Martín, is satisfied with the attitude of the team, "the boys are motivated and eager to start" Regarding the qualifiers on Thursday, "All the teams with the most powerful riders like Alex Pullin, Pierre Vaultier, Alessandro Haemmerle, we are in the same package, in only 40 centesimas of difference ". "Regino Hernández and Lucas Eguibar have not made a perfect descent and those small errors penalize a lot in a circuit of 1'17 '. More tomorrow!"Pointed out the RFEDI snowboard cross trainer on the performance of the Spanish riders. Regarding the circuit of Cervinia "It's a long circuit at quite a height. There are 8 curves and a drop of 200 m. It is quite easy technically, without big jumps, or a technical exit in which to be able to mark differences. Several modifications have been made and hopefully it can be faster"

Regarding individual achievements, Lucas Eguibar climbed the podium twice on the SBX World Cup circuit, where he was finally in a fantastic 6th position. Regino Hernández, great winner of the 2017-2018 season for his spectacular performance in the Olympic Snowboardcross of PyeongChang, where he won the bronze medal in a very emotional final breaking with 26 years of Olympic metal drought for Spain. Regino Hernández finished in the 10th position in the FIS World Cup ranking of SBX.

As for the SBX World Cup team competitions, last season Lucas Eguibar and Regino Hernández managed to get on the podium twice. One in the race held in Montafon (Austria) in December, where they also won in 2017, and another Veysonnaz (Switzerland), the last snowboardcross World Cup test 2018. Thanks to the good results obtained, they managed to qualify in a second place in the classification of the circuit by teams.

It is also important to remember that Eguibar won two silver medals during the Sierra Nevada World Cup 2017: one in the individual category and another in the SBX team category, together with his inseparable Comrade Regino Hernández.

Baqueira Beret is going to be a snowboard mecca again for winter 2018-2019, in what will be his second organization of an event at the highest level of the International Ski Federation (FIS). The Boardercross track in the Blanhiblar de Beret will host the 1st and 2nd of March 2019 the Snowboard Cross World Cup.
