Snow hinders traffic on numerous peninsular roads

The heavy snowfall that has been recorded during the last hours already makes traffic difficult on numerous roads in the center and north of the peninsular, most of them in the secondary network.

The high capacity roads (highways or motorways) most affected by snow are located in the provinces of Madrid, Ávila and Segovia, and in some of them snow accumulations have forced the prohibition of truck and bus traffic.

Thus, the data of the DGT indicate that in the A-1 (Autovía del Norte), at the height of the Madrid town of El Molar - between kilometer points 45 and 99 - the passage to trucks and articulated vehicles has been prohibited.

On the AP-51 motorway, at the height of the town of Santa María del Cubillo (between kilometers 82 and 104), the passage of trucks and articulated vehicles is also interrupted.

In the province of Segovia, on the A-601 (known as the Pinares highway), snow has also forced traffic from trucks, articulated vehicles and buses between kilometers 10 and 25, in the immediate vicinity of the Royal Site of San Ildefonso (Segovia), and in the same section only the traffic of vehicles with chains or with winter tires is allowed.

They are the main roads of the national network most affected by the heavy snowfall of the last hours, which have also affected many roads of the secondary network.

According to data from the DGT, about thirty roads in the secondary network are also being affected by snowfall, mainly in Asturias, Navarra and Huesca.

There are two closed ports due to snow in Cantabria (those of Estacas de Trueba and Lunada) and one in Navarra (that of Belagua), both in the secondary network; and the chains are necessary to transit through four ports of Asturias and one in Huesca and by several secondary roads of the province of Oscense.
