The Atlantic Center for Modern Art (CAAM) presents the exhibition at its headquarters in Los Balcones No. 9, until April 21. Symmetries CAAM Collection integrated by a selection of works of six creators, of different generations and nationalities, that have been recently acquired by the art center of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. They are works that constitute the testimony of the will and commitment of this cultural institution to balance funds in which artists have been and are represented in a lower percentage than artists.
The works that make up this exhibition address gender issues, from different approaches, and have been created in different languages, such as painting, photography, sculpture and installation. They are pieces that have been part of exhibitions that have taken place in the CAAM, linked to its programmatic axes. These are the works of the Algerian artist Zoulikha Bouabdellah, the Paraguayan Claudia Casarino, the Canary Islands Teresa Correa and Concha Jerez, the Moroccan Fatima Mazmouz and the Dominican Raquel Paiewonsky.
" Symmetry It is the concept selected as the title of this exhibition and as a testimony of a desire. The desire to become symmetrical, to contain two equal and necessarily complementary parts that make up a whole ", explains the director of the CAAM, Orlando Britto. This project is the first of a year in which the center of Vegueta celebrates its three decades of operation.
