Several Latin American countries are promoted in the largest tourism fair in Taiwan for consumers, the International Travel Fair of Taipei, which opens today and had 360,000 visitors in 2017.
Some 60 countries and areas of the world participate in the fair, including hundreds of travel agencies, airlines and hotels, in 1,700 booths, according to the organization's data.
With the exception of some countries such as Peru, which has its own pavilion, the rest of the Ibero-American countries present their tourist and cultural offer through agencies, which offer discounts and special packages during the fair.
This year's Latin American offer focuses on tourist packages to several countries in the area destined for travelers with high purchasing power, and include visits to ruins and historical monuments, since beach tourism is not very popular in Taiwan, and they offer it other countries in its environment.
With respect to Spain, the novelty of 2018 is the consolidation of tourist packages destined to the European country exclusively and not to visit it included in tourist packages with other countries of the Old Continent, as in previous years.
In this edition, the fair takes place in the Nangang Exhibition Center, in the Taiwanese capital, to better accommodate the many exhibitors who want to participate this year, said the Taiwan Visitors Association, organizer of the event.
The number of Taiwanese tourists who went abroad in 2017 was 15.7 million, which represented an increase of 7.3% over the previous year, showing the great tourist potential of an island of 23.5 million inhabitants.
The International Travel Fair of Taipei was held for the first time in the exhibition hall of Songshan Airport (in Taipei) in 1987.
