The businessman Josep Sanchez Llibre has collected more than a thousand endorsements to his candidacy for the presidency of Foment del Treball and expects to reach 2,000 before the elections on November 5, which would mean support between 70% and 80 % of the members of the General Assembly.
The ex-politician, who has presented the endorsements at the general secretary of Foment today, has been pleased to have gathered so much support since the minimum necessary is 40 guarantees, which makes it a "consensus" list.
The candidacy of Sánchez Llibre is the only one that has been presented so far and it is taken for granted that the day of the elections will be chosen as the new president of Foment, replacing Joaquim Gay de Montellà.
In statements to journalists, Sánchez Llibre has insisted that his candidacy seeks to "rejuvenate, renew, modernize and feminize" the employer's institution, as well as to make Foment be seen as "the big house of the entrepreneurs of Catalonia."
"We also want Foment to be the voice and face of Catalan businessmen in Catalonia, in Madrid and in the European Union," he said, after reiterating that from Foment "we will defend only and exclusively business interests, who governs who governs."
The deadline for the presentation of candidacies for the elections is October 29 and the polling station will be constituted in the following two days.
Voting for the presidency and for the members of the Board of Directors will be carried out only by the members attending the Electoral Assembly with the right to vote.
