The president of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, has defended tonight "to open a new stage in which the confrontation gives way to concord", while the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, thanked him for being able to speak "of everything" in the interview that both of you have held this afternoon.
After meeting at the Palau de Pedralbes in Barcelona, Sánchez and Torra met again shortly after tonight at the Foment awards ceremony, held at the Sofía Hotel, and the attention was focused on the speeches of both of them.
The President of the Government has not given details of how the interview with Torra had taken place, but he has taken advantage of his intervention to vindicate a series of values that he said were useful both in the economic and political fields.
"It is up to us all to open a new stage in which confrontation gives way to concord, polarization (…) to cohesion," he underlined, and then concluded: "Faced with gesticulation and noise, dialogue , dialogue and more dialogue, I, as president, and my Government, are willing to do so. "
"If something we have learned in these last years of crisis is that together we have always come much further, businessmen, governments and civil society, and together the peoples of Spain," the president has added.
For his part, Torra has also taken advantage of his intervention to ask Sánchez for a "State pact" to "defranchise" Spain and "isolate the extreme right".
"President, I think that what we have decided to place ourselves in the dialogue to find a democratic solution, that both governments have shared, seems to me an essential idea of the meeting we have had, and in which I am grateful that we have been able to talk about everything ", pointed Torra, addressing the President of the Government.
Torra has detailed that, during the meeting held at the Palau de Pedralbes, Sánchez has been exposed to the "great consensus" that in his opinion exist in Catalan society: the "republican" feeling, the rejection of "repression" and the conviction that the Catalan conflict must be resolved through "a referendum of self-determination".
"These are the three consensuses that I have explained to Sanchez and that I have conveyed through a proposal of a State pact in which we came together through a point where I think we can all agree, which is the defranking of the State and the isolation of the extreme right, surely we could all advance on these roads, "he continued.
Also, Torra has made a very specific proposal: the repeal of the decree that facilitated the transfer of venues, which was approved by the Government of Mariano Rajoy after the referendum of October 1, 2017.
At the end of his speech, Quim Torra said he regretted not being able to stay the entire evening of this awards ceremony for having a commitment acquired with a literary act.
On the other hand, during the awards ceremony, attended by more than 500 managers and businessmen, Foment del Treball has recognized Naturgy's CEO, Francisco Reynés, with the Entrepreneur of the Year Medal of Honor for his professional career.
The new president of Foment de Treball, the exolitist of UDC Josep Sánchez Llibre, today asked the Spanish and Catalan governments to "negotiate future solutions" and has asked them to approve their respective budgets.
For its part, the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, has given the "most sincere welcome to both the ministers" who will meet in Barcelona tomorrow and "the people who will demonstrate peacefully" in its streets: "It is not kind of equidistance, but profound respect for democracy and freedom, "he said.
