The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attends this Thursday the dinner organized in Barcelona by the main Catalan employers' association, Fomento del Trabajo, sources from the Palacio de la Moncloa have confirmed.
Sánchez wants to send a message of confidence and stability to Catalan businessmen at their most important meeting of the year and will attend the ceremony accompanied by their ministers of Economy and Business, Nadia Calviño, and Labor, Migration and Social Security, Magdalena Valerio, according to the same sources.
That the representation of the Government in the gala is not more nourished is due to the recommendation of the Ministry of the Interior, which advised to limit the presence of members of the Executive in Barcelona on the eve of the Council of Ministers for security reasons, admit Europa Press Government sources.
On the afternoon of this Wednesday, the Catalan Government had only confirmed the presence of the Councilor of Enterprise and Knowledge, Àngels Chacón, to the dinner, which will begin at 9:00 p.m. at the Sofía Hotel.
Before the gala, Sanchez will be expected to meet with the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, at 18.00 at the Palacio de Pedralbes. On the format of that meeting, Moncloa and the Government maintain contradictory versions.
The Sanchez government maintains that the two presidents will meet alone, as the president did with the Andalusian Susana Díaz when the Council of Ministers was held in October in Seville. In the Executive are open to, in parallel to that meeting, there may be other contacts between the vice presidents Carmen Calvo and Peré Aragonés and between some minister and conseller more.
FORMAT 4 + 4
Instead, the Government states that the format agreed with Moncloa consists of a joint meeting "four for four": the two presidents, three members of Sánchez's cabinet and three consellers of the Govern, that is, a "mini summit of governments with content political "that will start with a first greeting between presidents.
This particular format is rejected by the Government because it is not planned for its meetings with regional executives, but for contacts with other partner countries in Spain. "What is not going to be is a meeting of two governments, which does not proceed because we are also the Government of Catalonia," Calvo said.
These contacts aim to serve, in the words of Calvo, so that the two administrations work together for "the problems of Catalonia", but also to talk about the Budgets that the Government of Sanchez plans to send in January to Congress.
A day later, Sanchez will preside at the Llojta de Mar meeting of the Council of Ministers, which, among other measures, will approve the highest increase in the minimum interprofessional salary for democracy, up to 900 euros. The next Council of Ministers that will take place outside of Madrid will be in March in Alicante.
