Samsung squeezes the technology in its new Galaxy S10 | Technology
Samsung does not want to let go the scepter of the most exclusive mobiles that is disputed with Apple. While preparing its flexible screen terminal and awaiting the massive deployment of the 5G, called to change the way we interact with our smartphone, the South Korean manufacturer has decided to squeeze the most the Galaxy badge, equipping it with the best technology and design available.
The brand presented today its new Galaxy S10, three models in 4G that arrive now (S10 +, S10 and S10e) and that will have a replica with 5G in summer. Its new flagship boasts artificial intelligence not only to suggest the best photo in each shot but also to adapt the battery to the habits of use and save energy.
Among the novelties of the new S10 is its commitment to a safe unlocking thanks to its fingerprint sensor by ultrasound. And as if that were not enough, the same mobile becomes a wireless charger with which to charge any compatible device, from another mobile to a smartwatch or a wireless headphones.
The renewed Galaxy S10 range, officially presented today in San Francisco and in a special session for the specialized press in London, is a prudent but solid evolution of the S9, both in terms of performance and design. Of this last one, it surprises its infinite screen, that not only removes the edges as in the previous model but it hides the lenses of the front camera below the surface in a discrete hole (punch hole), so that 93.1% of the screen is used to improve the viewing of a movie, play a video game or simply enjoy any application.
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
The other great novelty is its new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, housed under the front screen and without physical button. Using pulses of sound creates a three-dimensional footprint almost impossible to fake, even with a silicone mold as with two-dimensional sensors. Once you have scanned your chosen thumb or finger, the unlocking is instantaneous, even with wet hands or the screen off. It also carries face recognition (not iris), although Samsung does not hide that its definitive bet for security happens more by the traces that by the face.
The five cameras of the S10 and S10 + are also one step ahead of those of the S9. The back is equipped with three sensors for the first time, incorporating a wide angle of 16 megapixels (MP) and 123 degrees to take pictures of landscapes and great panoramas, or even to fit the whole family in a single photo. This third camera joins the two existing in the previous model: the main dual variable aperture and the telephoto lens for zoom, both of 12 MP.
However, for the general public that seeks the convenience of capturing a moment or making a portrait with a simple click without having to mess around in the menu, what most strikes you is the new function of "suggested picture" (shot suggestion). When a landscape or a face is focused, a kind of guide with a central line and a red dot appears on the viewfinder, which must be aligned by moving the mobile to achieve the perfect framing. This function is possible thanks to the artificial intelligence that searches the database of the phone among millions of photos to decide which is the best possible shot.
The front camera for selfies, dual in the case of the S10 + with two lenses of 10 MP and 8 MP, it is embedded inside the screen in the upper right, so as not to distract the surface. It breaks with the dictatorship of the eyelash or notch to house the cameras and sensors, which made Apple fashionable in its latest iPhone and have been repeated over and over again by the other manufacturers.
The 6.1-inch screen in the case of the S10 and 6.4-inch screen in the S10 + uses the new 4K Quad HD Dynamic Amoled standard, which extends the contrast and variety of colors, improving viewing. Blue light has also been mitigated to reduce eye fatigue. In addition, the video camera includes an image stabilizer (supersteady) that reduces the recording area to compensate for the movement of the hand and avoid the sensation of trembling when recording, for example, in a concert. The front and rear cameras can shoot in UHD quality and, for the first time, the rear camera gives you the option to record in HDR10 + .6
Predictive battery
The battery expands to 3,400 mAh in the S10 and up to 4,100 mAh in the S10 + but the trick in this segment is not so much in the increase in capacity but in that, again thanks to artificial intelligence, the battery becomes as the camera in a dynamic element able to predict the habits of use and adapt to them to extend the autonomy of the mobile. Thus, if the user performs a series of routines such as turning on the GPS map when driving or playing music when browsing web pages, the mobile learns of those uses, and turns off or on functions to optimize energy consumption.
The extra that surely will be among the most applauded of the new Galaxy S10 is its ability to become wireless chargers (WirelessPowerShare) that feed both other mobile phones and wereables, as long as they are compatible with that loading standard (Qi certification). Just activate the charger function and place the other device on the back of the S10 so that the other device begins to fill its batteries. The load is, of course, slower than with the cable but it is worth it for an emergency or to save chargers in the suitcase in almost carrying a second mobile or a smartwatch
The S10e and the S10 5G
The S10e, the most economical version, is different to the naked eye because of the smaller size of the screen (5.8 inches) and that it is flat, unlike its older brothers who continue to opt for the curved edges (edge). It also loses the telephoto lens in the rear camera and the front is monofocal. The battery is reduced to 3,100 mAh, and comes in two versions (6G of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory and 8 GB / 256 GB).
The version 5G, which will be sold at the beginning of summer, is only known to expand its screen to 6.7 inches and the battery to 4,500 mAh, with a super video camera hQVGA, and an ultrafast charging system.
Samsung also wanted to take advantage of the launch of the S10 to launch new wireless helmets, the Galaxy Buds, more ergonomic and the first to incorporate wireless charging.
The prices according to the models are the following: Galaxy S10e of 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of memory, 779 euros; S10 6 GB / 128 GB, 929 euros; S10 8 GB / 512 GB, 1,179 euros; S10 + 6 GB / 128 GB, 1,049 euros; and S10 + 8 GB / 512 GB, 1,299 euros.
The Galaxy 10 will arrive in Spain in five colors (blue, white, black, blue, yellow and pink) and the S10 + will also be available in two premium ceramic colors. It can be booked from today, until it goes on sale next March 8. Customers who make the reservation will receive the Galaxy Buds as a gift.
