Russia declared today that it does not know or see another president of Venezuela other than Nicolás Maduro and reiterated its full support for the government that it heads.
"I would like to convey on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, words of support for the legitimate president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro ... We do not see or know another president of Venezuela," said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov.
The Russian high office made this statement during the XIV meeting of the Russia-Venezuela intergovernmental commission, which is being held in Moscow.
Borisov stressed that this meeting is a demonstration that Russia and Venezuela are committed to a pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation.
"We are convinced that precisely this way, and not with the language of threats, sanctions and ultimatums, Venezuela's foreign partners should contribute to this return to the path of sustainable development," said the Russian deputy prime minister, quoted by the agency Interfax.
He added that Russia confirms its support for the efforts of the Venezuelan Government to stabilize the situation in the country and insisted that Venezuela's internal problems must be resolved by the citizens of that country without outside interference.
"The bilateral cooperation, including the expansion of our interaction not only in the traditional sectors, but also in the field of high technologies, is one of the key elements for the stable development of Venezuela and the reduction of tension in the socioeconomic sphere" said Borisov.
The government delegation of Venezuela is headed by the sectoral vice-president and Minister of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez.
