The president of the Federation continues with his revolution in both the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. Luis Rubiales, informed the members of the Board of Directors held this afternoon at the Ciudad del Fútbol the project in which they are working to redesign the current formats of both competitions.
The new Supercopa of Spain will be developed over the next few years in a "Final Four" format at a venue outside of Spain and during the month of January.
Regarding the Copa del Rey, the tournament will be held single match at home of the lower category team until the semifinals, which will be a double confrontation. The competition will be integrated from the first elimination round by teams of Regional, Third division, Second B, Second and First division. The match scenarios must meet minimum requirements to host the matches of the competition.
As an exception, the teams qualified to compete in the Spanish Super Cup in January will join the Copa del Rey in the knockout round of the round of 32.
Both initiatives involve an important download of matches in the calendar of the next seasons and must be approved on April 29 at the Extraordinary General Assembly to be held at the headquarters of the Federation.
