Revilla asks for financing for cost of services and regrets lack of consensus

The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, wishes to maintain a model of regional financing based on the cost of services and regrets that "he sees no consensus anywhere" to reach an agreement between the regions.

Revilla points out that there are two positions regarding regional financing, one that sees "absolutely unfair" and advocates a model based on the number of inhabitants, and another, the one defended by Cantabria, in which the cost of the services that They lend.

The Cantabrian president warns that the model with a distribution based on the population as the main factor is the one claimed by the communities where more votes are at stake.

"They are the powerful communities in votes. And the vote for the politician is like honey for the bear," says Revilla, who insists on defending financing for the cost of services.

"Every citizen, live where he lives, has the right to a road that takes him home and to have the doctor and the teacher close," he says, before asking that "that is not violated" because "if not, it will be disaster."

In his opinion, in order to maintain rural populations, it is necessary that the criterion be maintained according to the cost of services. "A measure taken based on the number of inhabitants is the end of rural areas," he warns.

The position of Cantabria is "very clear", because with its orography and the aging population can not bet on anything other than the cost of services. "I hope that there is a logic and that they do not get carried away by the easiest thing, which is to give what they want to those who have more inhabitants," adds the regional president.

In addition, Revilla regrets that "he sees no consensus anywhere" to agree on regional financing, a "crucial" issue for the distribution of resources in Spain.

On the situation of the Open Arms, the Cantabrian president believes that Europe "must hold an emergency meeting" to "take charge" of the immigrants and that each country "assumes its share", to which its region will also contribute.

"Cantabria will then be in the line of contributing and collaborating like everyone else," says Revilla, after being asked by journalists.
