Renfe has approved the tender for the purchase of 38 hybrid Cercanías trains for an amount of 365.6 million euros. In total, the cost will increase to 473.9 million by including the acquisition of park parts, the integral maintenance of 11 trains for 15 years, the tooling and the initial warehouse necessary for maintenance, as well as additional supply options And maintenance. The contract involves the supply of 29 trains plus an option to be able to acquire nine more units.
The new trains, which will be able to run both conventional routes and AVE lines, will be formed by 3 cars plus a generator van, which will allow the replacement of the old diesel trains. The maximum speed will be at least 160 km / h under catenary and 140 km / h in non-electrified areas.
With this operation, Renfe aims to renovate the train park and make it more accessible. The new Cercanías trains will have areas prepared for access for people with reduced mobility and adapted for people with visual or hearing disabilities. In addition, they will include areas for bicycles and children's carts, as well as free wifi for travelers.
For the purchase it will be valued that the consumption of the trains is the lowest possible and that the emission rates are respectful with the environment. This is the fifth order of trains that Renfe starts up in the framework of the purchase plan for new material that it launched at the beginning of the year and which altogether add up to a total amount of 5,224 million euros.
