Renfe “low cost” AVE tickets will be sold from 10 euros

The price range will reach up to 60 euros, as confirmed by its president

Between 10 and 60 euros per way. That will be the price that the low cost AVE tickets of Renfe, AVLO will have, which was presented last week by the Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos. The price range has been confirmed today in an interview with a couple of media outlets by the president of the public operator, Isabías Táboas. As explained by the manager, the service, which will begin operating on April 6, cwill start in principle the Madrid stations of Atocha and Barcelona's Sants. As for the number of stops that will be made, Táboas has explained that it will depend on the behavior of the clients, because for this service to be profitable in the conditions in which it has been conceived, it is necessary that it has a high level of occupation. And the chances of empty seats on trains increase the more stops there are on the way.

The president of Renfe, as he had done on other occasions, explained that AVLO's objective is to broaden the high-speed customer base with groups such as young people or families whose conventional AVE finds it too expensive and that For this reason, they are now traveling by road. The number of new customers that the operator wants to capture with its low cost service is one million, explained Táboas. To achieve such an appreciable price reduction in fares, he has insisted that trains will only have one economy class, no cafeteria and no service on board. In addition, they will have Wi-Fi, but it will be paid. He has also ensured that, compared to the 500,000 kilometers that a conventional AVE travels on average every year, those of AVLO will travel around 750,000 to optimize the investment.

To start the service, Renfe will use the five remodeled trains of the 112 series of Talgo (known as the Duck), with 438 seats per train and rows of four seats (two and two), which will allow them to have 20% more seats than a conventional AVE. As of April 2021, the new 106 series trains (Talgo Avril) will be incorporated, with a capacity of up to 581 seats, and rows of five seats (3 + 2). Your number will depend on the demand of the service. As they are put into service, Renfe will study extending the AVLO to other corridors such as Andalusia and Levante.
