Aleix Espargaró, fourth, was left on the verge of the podium in a race that Bagnaia abandoned when they had barely taken a few laps

Frenchman Fabio Quartararo took over from Marc Márquez at the Sachsenring. Since 2013, no driver other than the one from Cervera has won the German Grand Prix. The Frenchman achieved an important victory, the third of the course, which consolidates him at the top of the general classification after a test that left bad news for the Spaniards.

Aleix Espargaró could not get on the podium, which was completed by the Frenchman Johann Zarco and the Australian Jack Miller, and finished in fourth place. It was worse for the Italian Bagnaia, who started from pole, and could barely reach the fifth lap before leaving. A list that included up to four Spaniards who could not see the checkered flag: Joan Mir, Álex Márquez, Maverick Viñales and Pol Espargaró.
