José “Chombo” Silva was a fantastic Cuban saxophonist. Its sound is the definition of “flavor”. He was a discreet, reserved and bohemian guy. Violinist by training, in the early 1940s he played with the Troubadours del Tono, where he met the great pianist Peruchín, who advised him to switch to saxophone. Together they play again in the Swing Boys, the big band by Emilio Peñalver.
