Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora) releases 100,000 "sweet taste" Christmas lights

The town of Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora) has premiered tonight the one hundred thousand Christmas lights that have the "sweet taste" of being the prize of the contest that organizes a brand of chocolates to choose the Spanish town "graceful" with a spectacular lighting Christmas

The contest, which has been decided by popular vote through the internet, has allowed this mountain village of about 1,350 inhabitants to show a waste of light bulbs in its old town, presuming to be one of the best-illuminated towns in the Christmas holidays and do it "at zero cost".

That "fat" Christmas that has received in advance the zamorano municipality, measures his prize not only in watts of light but also in the form of tourism promotion and number of visitors who will be coming next weeks to Puebla de Sanabria, as he has underlined to Efe its mayor, José Fernández Blanco.

The rain that has fallen in this town located between Galicia and the Central Plateau has not prevented hundreds of people, umbrellas in hand, from concentrating in its Plaza Mayor on the party prior to the lighting of the lights.

Puebla de Sanabria had reached the final of the contest sponsored by the brand Ferrero Rocher next to the Cantabrian town of Comillas.

Although the winner has been officially announced tonight in a live broadcast by Telecinco, in the province of Zamora it was an open secret that "this Christmas the town is ... Puebla", as the slogan of the campaign promoted by this municipality to attract voters for the contest.

Since last Monday, sixty people have worked in the installation of lighting and in the recording of a television ad filmed in the town of Zamora by Ferrero Rocher.

About 22:15, the Saturday Deluxe program has connected live with Puebla de Sanabria, where the presenter Jesús Vázquez has communicated the winner and half an hour later there has been a second connection for the ignition of one hundred thousand light bulbs.

In this fifth edition of the "Envelope of light your people" contest, in addition to the two finalists, they have also competed to take the spectacular Christmas lights the municipalities of Ayllón (Segovia), Medina Sidonia (Cádiz), Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real ) and Olite-Erriberri (Navarra).

The mayor of Puebla de Sanabria has linked the victory in the flamboyant contest to the charms of this town that presides over its majestic 15th century castle and an old town that preserves the traditional architecture of the area.

He also stressed that equally important for the victory have been the attractions offered by other places in the region such as Lake Sanabria and mobilization through social networks to get votes that the Zamoranos have made and who have emigrated from this province to other points of the country.

Like the town of Caceres province, winner in the previous edition of the contest, Puebla de Sanabria is part of the Association of Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, which has also supported the vote to the municipality sanabrés.
