Prosecutor's Office investigates two hoaxes about the pandemic denounced by United We Can

The Prosecutor's Office has agreed to investigate the complaint presented by Unidas Podemos for the development and dissemination of hoaxes through social networks about the coronavirus pandemic, such as a video showing dozens of coffins in a warehouse and another with images of dozens of bags that They allegedly contain corpses and are related to the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.

After studying the complaint filed by deputies Enrique Santiago and Martina Velarde on April 6 before the State Attorney General's Office, the Specialized Unit against Computer Crime has agreed to initiate investigative measures to determine whether the preparation and dissemination of these images "to through social networks and also through instant messaging tools "are constituting crimes of simulation of danger, slander and insults to high institutions of the State and criminal organization.

The document signed by the prosecutor of the Coordinating Chamber for Computer Crime, Elvira Tejada, recalls that these images have been denounced for being "manipulated" and because they are not "adjusted to reality", according to deputy Enrique Santiago on his Twitter account .

The objective of these actions "would be to falsely impute to the Government of the Nation irregular actions and concealment from the public of information about the effects of the pandemic and alarm the population causing unnecessary action by the public services responsible for providing assistance to the citizenship, "continues the prosecutor.

The complaint indicates that in one of the videos "photographs are shown showing dozens of coffins in a warehouse, accompanied at the top by the initials 'PSOE' and by an illustration that pretends to simulate the Covid-19 with a symbology similar to the one used by the media. " All this accompanied by the following text: 'The photo by which dozens of police and health workers are being investigated'.

Also, the complainants assure that they have been able to verify that the photographs correspond to coffins with people who died in a shipwreck of refugees near the island of Lampedusa (Italy), in October 2013, so "in no case" is it about died in Spain as a result of the coronavirus.

The other reported hoax refers to a video in which dozens of bags that allegedly contain corpses appear, also allegedly overcrowded in the Madrid hospital Ramón y Cajal. As in the previous case, it has also been sent in bulk through WhatsApp along with the following text: 'Do you want to see the reality that the Government is hiding from you? Well, this is it. Recorded today with a camera at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid. THEY ARE NOT 1,000 DEAD DAILY. ARE MANY MORE. Lying on the floor, in bags, like dogs. '

The complainants point out that the Ramón y Cajal Hospital immediately denied that the images corresponded to their facilities and that they were subsequently attributed successively to the Parc Tauli Hospital in Sabadell (Barcelona), the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona or the Severo Ochoa Hospital in Leganés (Madrid ). According to the letter submitted to the Prosecutor's Office, this video was recorded at the IESS Los Ceibos General Hospital in Guayaquil (Ecuador).

These are not the only cases reported to the Attorney General's Office, as Unidas Podemos addressed the Public Prosecutor's Office on April 2 to denounce another false video in which it is said that medical material and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stored in Spain are going to be sent to France to be marketed there. On this occasion, they have identified a worker from the Palos City Council (Huelva) and a deputy inspector of the National Police who was a Vox candidate for the Madrid Assembly as disseminators of the images.
