Profile of today’s stage of the Giro d’Italia

The mountain returns with the fifteenth stage between Rivolto Air Base (Frecce Tricolori) and Piancavallo, of 185 kilometers, a day of those considered key for the general with one last ascent of 14 kilometers that lead to goal.

The route has wide descending or flat sections between climbs. To begin with the Sella Chianzutan (2nd, 10.6 kilometers at 5.4 average percentage that will test each one’s strength before the long descent to Tolmezzo.

With hardly a breath, the Forcella di Monte Rest (2nd, 7.4 to 7.5), a pass with complicated curves and no less difficult ramps. Another descent will lead to the Pala Barzana peak (2nd, 13.3 to 4.4), a longer but less demanding climb than after another descent and flat area leads to Aviano, where the final climb begins.

It will be the moment of truth for the stage. The favorites who want to aspire to the pink jersey will have an interesting climb in a port already 1st, with 14.4 kilometers at 7.8 percent. On its slopes there are 14 percent sectors.

The last kilometer is uphill, although its slope softens.

A litmus test for the leader, the Portuguese Joao Almeida, who after passing the time trial test will be able to defend the pink jersey with an increasing margin. He surpasses the Dutch Wilko Kelderman (Sunweb) by 56 seconds and the Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain McLaren) by 2.11 minutes.
