Pope laments attack on Coptic Christians in Egypt

Pope Francis lamented today the attack against Coptic Christians committed in Egypt on November 2, which caused seven deaths, after the recitation of the Sunday Angelus.

"I express my sorrow for the terrorist attack that struck the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt two days ago, I pray for the victims, the faithful murdered just because they are Christians, and I ask Mary Most Holy to comfort the families and the whole community. "said the Pope from the window of the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

The jihadist group Islamic State (IS) on November 2 attributed the attack that day against a bus with Coptic Christians that killed 7 people and wounded 19 others on their way to the monastery of San Samuel, in the center of Egypt.

Egypt's Interior Ministry reported today that the country's security forces have killed 19 suspected terrorists linked to that attack.

Since December 2016, the EI, which has a branch in the Sinai Peninsula, has claimed several attacks that have killed more than a hundred people in Egyptian churches.
