Moscow, Apr 15 (EFE) .- The Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo will play the role of Rodrigo today in the opera Don Carlos by Italian Giuseppe Verdi at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, where in recent months he has become a regular guest.
“These representations of the opera Don Carlos, by Giuseppe Verdi, will be a kind of debut for the legendary Plácido Domingo, who will participate for the first time in a staging of the Bolshoi Theater,” said its director, Vladimir Urin, quoted by the Theater portal -On-line.
The opera was presented yesterday at the Bolshoi, where Domingo will sing today, Thursday and Sunday.
The Spanish tenor will share the stage with a luxurious cast, which includes the Italian bass Ferruccio Furlanetto (Felipe II), the Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eivázov (Don Carlos), the sopranos Anna Netrebko and Hibla Gerzamava (in the role of Isabel de Valois) and the mezzo-soprano Agunda Kuláyeva (princess of Éboli), among others.
The Bolshoi orchestra will be conducted by the Italian maestro Paolo Carignani.
Plácido Domingo has become a fixture on the Moscow theater billboard, which welcomes him with open arms, despite the sexual scandal that has kept him off the main stages of the world for more than a year.
Last October, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, he made his debut as a conductor at the Bolshoi with the opera “Manon Lescaut” and in February he returned to conduct “La bohème”.
Just over a month ago, at the beginning of March, he presented a gala entitled “Primavera. Amor. Ópera”, with guest stars from Mexico, Uruguay, Ukraine and Russia.
