North Korea said on Sunday that it has made "a very important test" at its launching base in Sohae (northwest) satellites, whose results will have a great effect on the country's strategic position "in the near future."
The "successful test" took place on Saturday afternoon and its results, "of great importance for the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea," were collected in a report by the Academy of Sciences for National Defense, according to a Brief statement published by the state news agency KCNA.
"The results of the important recent test will have an important effect on changing the strategic position of the DPRK once again in the near future," reads the text, without further details.
DPRK stands for Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the official name of North Korea.
The announcement by North Korea comes a few days after US media said that new satellite images had detected activity in Dongchang-ri (name with which Sohae base is also known), until whose test site a container of about 10 meters had arrived from engines
The statement also comes at a time of renewed friction between the United States and North Korea, which in recent days have raised the belligerence of their verbal exchanges.
Earlier this week, Pionyang again reminded Washington of the deadline until the end of the year he has given to change his position in the nuclear negotiations, and said he is preparing "a Christmas gift" that will depend on his decision.
North Korea began dismantling the launch pad and the Sohae engine bank, two of its key facilities, in July 2018, after the first summit between US President Donald Trump and its leader, Kim Jong -un, what was interpreted as a gesture of his predisposition to move towards denuclearization.
However, in March this year, after the failed summit in Hanoi, satellite photos showed that they had begun to restore structures on the launch pad and on the vertical test bench for missile engines at the facilities.
The Asian country from there launches satellites aboard space rockets, which the international community considers undercover tests of intercontinental missiles.
