The Insular Library of Gran Canaria presents its Rana awards on April 27, in a ceremony that will take place at the Cuyás Theater from 6:00 p.m. The event will be attended by the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, the councilor for Culture of the corporation, Guacimara Medina, the mayor of the city, Augusto Hidalgo, as well as different mayors and councilors for Culture from various municipalities on the island.

The gala of this second edition whose artistic direction will be in charge of the actor and theater director, Luifer Rodríguez, and will be presented by the actor and comedian Aarón Gómez, awards the statuettes with which it recognizes the people and entities that have contributed and highlighted with their actions and participation in the promotion of reading and writing, as well as in the creative areas closely linked to the book.

The delivery of these awards, which could not take place last year due to the outbreak of the pandemic, this year distinguishes the writer Pepa Aurora for her artistic and professional career, from which there are currently twelve children's libraries in Gran Canaria and Tenerife that bear his name, and awards the honorary awards to the librarian Juan Alberto Hernández (award for library work) and the writer Antonio Lozano (award for literary creation), both posthumously.

The gala promises to be, in addition to an act of recognition of the work linked to the promotion of books and reading, an event in which creation will be very present in its development. It will have the participation of the DJ Manel Ruiz The specialist and the performances of the dance company Natalia Medina, the singers Víctor Lemes, Ginés Cedrés and Arístides Moreno, as well as the Alicante storyteller Pablo Albo, one of the most prestigious Spanish oral narrators .

In addition, the Insular Library that manages the Council of Culture of the Gran Canaria Council, will recognize with its particular frog (a figure loaded with symbolism in universal children's literature, an amphibian that, at the same time, refers to those found at the source of the square where the library is located) to the best readers (in its family, children's, youth and adult sections and reading clubs), the prizes for the promotion of reading in its sections of libraries, educational centers, school participation and reading promotion), the prizes for reading inclusion, the prizes for the creative process in its sections X International Prize for Illustrated Album of the Insular Library of Gran Canaria, Prize of the XVIII Amateur Illustration Marathon of the Insular Library and the Simón Research Grant Prize Benítez Padilla, as well as the specials corresponding to the year 2020, which this time highlights the best initiatives to promote reading in the library s during the period of confinement.
