Pedro Almodovar is in a moment of great productivity. Not only is she in full pre-production of her new film, the film adaptation of Manual for cleaning women, the book by Lucía Berlin, but this summer she will shoot a new short film in the desert of Almería. A western that she announced two years ago at the Venice Film Festival when he presented The Human Voice and that will finally kick off. It will be called Strange way of life, and Almodóvar has confirmed that the two protagonists of it will be Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke as "two hired guns" who meet again.

“A man crosses the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek on horseback. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides to meet him, worked together as hired guns. Silva comes under the pretext of reuniting with his friend from youth, and in fact they celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not the memory of their old friendship, "says the first synopsis. of the short film offered by his production company El Deseo. “I don't have to say more so as not to reveal all the surprises of the script”, adds the director about this first argument.
The poetic title, Strange way of life, alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, “whose lyrics suggest that there is no existence more strange than the one that is lived with your back turned to your own desires”. Almodóvar has also confirmed the names of the rest of the cast, which includes young promises Jason Fernández, José Condessa, George Steane and Manu Ríos, as well as Pedro Casablanc and Sara Sálamo. The costume design will be carried out by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, who will not only be in charge of that aspect, but will also be associated with the project as producers. The filming will take place, in part, in the desert of Tabernas, in Almería, and in the town that Sergio Leone built fifty years ago to shoot his dollar trilogy with Clint Eastwood.

Pedro Almodovar — Film director
It is curious that the director is going to shoot a western with two men, two protagonists, since one of the projects in English that he was able to shoot at the time was Brokeback Mountain. In an interview in the United Kingdom during Julieta's tour, Almodóvar said that his version would have had "more sex," as did the Annie Proulx story on which it is based, which "focuses on a physical relationship, a animal relationship. The other short that he is preparing, and for which there are no data or dates for its shooting, is a dystopia about a world that has run out of cinemas.
Following the shooting of Strange Way of Life, the director will get to work on Handbook for Cleaning Women, which will star and be produced by Cate Blanchett and will be his first feature film in English. There are still many unknowns to resolve from this project, from the shooting dates, to the name of the actresses, going through which stories will be chosen by Almodóvar within the book, since there will only be five that jump to the big screen.
During his visit to Los Angeles last March, when he attended the Oscar ceremony, Pedro Almodóvar took the opportunity to meet with some of the actresses he had in mind for this new project, as he recounted in the logbook he wrote and published in eldiario.es
