The fifth edition of the Universal Music Festival of the Royal Theater of Madrid brings together a panoply of artists of diverse genres and generations, from Paul Anka, Joan Báez or José Mercé, to Aitana, passing through Antonio Orozco and Jamie Cullum. The concerts are held from July 5 to 31 and tickets go on sale, for the general public, next Monday.
The director of the Teatro Real, Ignacio García, recalled that the origin of this festival is "opening the theater to new audiences" with shows "based on the highest quality". The president of Universal Music Spain, Narcís Rebollo, delved into that the poster, which still has "one or two names" to be confirmed, "seeks the diversity of all genres by enhancing them with outstanding figures." They were also accompanied by the festival's director, Mariacruz Laguna, who stressed that parity has been tried: "We are still fighting for it".
The group Los Secretos, which are celebrating 40 years of career, open the concerts. The band from Madrid will remember the themes that made them succeed and will also play some new ones. It will follow Paul Anka July 15, which at 77 years old will offer a concert tribute to his friend Frank Sinatra. From the "living legend of the crooner world", as defined by Rebollo, a Jamie Cullum, on July 22. Winner of a Grammy, has sold more than 10 million albums.
On July 27, the national representation returns with Antonio Orozco. The artist will give a concert with a concept defined as "unique" in which music is mixed with theater and entertainment. The next day Joan Báez will offer one of the last shows of his career, as the reference of folk has announced that his retirement.
Silvia Pérez Cruz will be joined on stage by Brazilian Toquinho and Javier Colina on July 29. This trio will only give three concerts together, in addition to this one from the Teatro Real. José Mercé also acts, on July 30, accompanied by his friend the guitarist Tomatito. Both have been in the presentation of the festival and the singer has confessed his desire to act "even more than the first time". It was 20 years ago and he became the first artist to bring flamenco to the opera house.
Singer Aitana, exconcursante of Operación Triunfo, closes the cycle with a nod to the youngest, because the concert will be held in the morning.
