Panathinaikos this Thursday dismissed the Spanish coach Xavi Pascual for the poor results of the Athenian team in the Euroleague. He did it the day after the defeat against Real Madrid by more than thirty points: 89-68. The Spanish coach signed with the Hellenic club in 2016 and during these two years he took him to the Greek league title and to win the Cup in 2017.
Pascual also qualified Panathinaikos for the 'playoffs' of the Euroleague these two years. However, he failed to get his team past that round, where he was eliminated by Fenerbahçe and Real Madrid.
The first assistant of Pascual, Giorgos Vóvoras, will assume the position of trainer until the end of the season. "We have to prepare the team for a 'final', we have to show reaction capacity, because we expect a difficult game against a very good team with talent as is the Armani," said Vóvoras in his first statements as a new coach.
