After the literary phenomenon, the series arrives. The adaptation of Homeland, the novel by Fernando Aramburu about ETA and life in the Basque Country over three decades, will be HBO's first Spanish original fiction. For a year, the writer and producer Aitor Gabilondo has been preparing the scripts of the series. Today HBO has confirmed several more details. Homeland will begin shooting in early 2019, will feature eight episodes and will be directed by Argentine filmmaker Pablo Trapero (The stillness, The clan, White Elephant) and the Navarre director Félix Viscarret (Under the stars, Winds of Havana). The premiere is scheduled for 2020.
"I've spent almost a year adapting Homeland to television. Now it's time to give life to these characters and recreate that painful past in some of the places where events very similar to those that are narrated in this fiction occurred, and when the wounds are still open in Euskadi. That fuels my commitment and forces me to sharpen sensitivity. Fortunately, HBO has allowed me to surround myself with an exceptional technical and artistic team, also very committed to that reality. I have no will to impose a single story because I do not believe it exists or think it should exist. Homeland it is not only for me the challenge of moving to the screen an exciting and powerful story that has reached millions of people around the world. It is also a personal journey in which, from the hand of the characters, I return to Euskadi from the hardest years of ETA, which marked my youth so much. You can not ask for more, "explains Aitor Gabilondo.
The history of fiction takes place over three decades in Euskadi. Through its protagonists, two families divided by the consequences of terrorism, Homeland It talks about how ordinary people live in the context of a conflict that, despite being local, has many common elements with any confrontation in many parts of the world. The life of Bittori and her family changes completely the day ETA murders her husband, Txato, at the door of his house. Broken relationships with the family of his friend Miren, whose son is a member of the terrorist group, all will have to deal with grief and moral contradictions while life follows its own course, putting in the way new conditions that will also determine their future. Will they be able to forgive one day, erase their differences, and be united again?
"Homeland defines the intention of HBO regarding the original production. We want to create something different, of great quality and that is up to the legacy of our brand. I think that the great book by Fernando Aramburu as a base, and the enormous contribution of Aitor Gabilondo adapting the novel and leading this team, will make Homeland a series like never before has been done, "said Miguel Salvat, Commissioning Editor of Original Programming HBO Spain, comments:
