It was red almost since the restoration of democracy. The crisis of a decade ago and the ensuing socialist debacle dyed it blue. In the 2015-2016 biennium after the emergence of Podemos, it turned slightly purple. And now it is in dispute. Is the call Red belt Madrid, which is double: the one in the south of the capital, which includes the most disadvantaged districts, with the lowest incomes and where the last one competes against the penultimate; and that of the region, dominated by huge dormitory cities located between highways and in which hundreds of thousands of people live who, to a large extent, have to travel every day to the work or university centers that dominate the north and west of the community whose government will be disputed on May 4 at the polls.
