The web portals of the hotel chains have become one of the main channels when making a reservation through the Internet in Spain. According to the study carried out by the SiteMinder platform, the contribution made by bookings through hotel websites to total total internet sales has grown from 8% to 33% in the last decade. «Direct bookings made through the hotels' own websites show great potential», explains Marco Rosso, regional director of SiteMunder in Spain.
According to the report itself, the twelve main booking channels in Spain are: Booking.com, Expedia, Websites of hotels (direct bookings), Hotelbeds (including GTA and Tourico), Global distribution systems, NT Incoming, Hotusa, Agoda , HRS – Hotel Reservation Service, Jet2holidays, Welcome Incoming and On the Beach.
Rosso himself notes that "last year 84.5 million trips were made to Spain; 47% more than 10 years ago. Although this growth presents great opportunities, the high demand is also a challenge for hotels, as they must find a way to attract a wide variety of potential customers in an ever-changing landscape. "
Hotel sales through the Internet were almost 231,000 million euros, which represented an increase of 13% compared to 2017 and 170% in the last decade.
